Privacy Policy
Effective 26 October 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Talkmaxi ("we", "us") handles information when you use the Talkmaxi mobile application and related services (the "Services"). Talkmaxi is built so that we collect as little as possible: your messages, calls and status updates are end-to-end encrypted and we cannot read them.
1. End-to-end encryption
Messages, photos, videos, voice notes, documents, status updates and calls are encrypted on your device with keys that only you and the people you communicate with hold. Your private identity key is generated on your device and never leaves it. Our servers only relay and temporarily store encrypted data that we are technically unable to decrypt.
2. Information we collect
- Account information. Your phone number (used to register and verify your account), the profile name, "about" text and profile photo you choose, and your public identity key.
- Address book. If you allow it, the phone numbers in your address book are uploaded so we can tell you which of your contacts use Talkmaxi and apply your privacy settings (for example "My contacts"). We store only phone numbers, not names, and you can withdraw permission in your device settings at any time.
- Encrypted content in transit. Encrypted messages and status updates are stored on our servers only until they are delivered to the recipient's device, and for at most 30 days if they cannot be delivered. Status updates expire after 24 hours. Encrypted media files are kept for up to 30 days so recipients can download them, then deleted.
- Groups and communities. Group names, descriptions, icons, settings and the list of members and admins, which are needed to deliver messages to the right people.
- Channels. Channels are public and are not end-to-end encrypted. Channel names, descriptions, posts, reactions and follower counts are stored on our servers. Which channels you follow is not shown to other users.
- Technical information. Device name, push notification token, IP address, timestamps of connections and last seen time, and diagnostic logs needed to operate, secure and troubleshoot the Services. Logs are kept for a limited period.
- Calls. To connect calls we process signalling data (who is calling whom and when) and may relay encrypted audio and video through our TURN servers. We do not record calls.
- Reports. If you report a user, group or channel, the report and any messages you choose to include are sent to us for review.
3. How we use information
We use information to provide and improve the Services, verify your phone number, deliver messages and calls, send push notifications (which contain no message content), apply your privacy settings, prevent spam and abuse, enforce our Terms, and comply with law. We do not sell your personal information and we do not use your information for advertising.
4. Your privacy controls
In the app you can choose who sees your last seen and online status, profile photo and about text (Everyone, My contacts or Nobody), whether to send read receipts, who can add you to groups, default disappearing message timers, two-step verification, and you can block or report other users.
5. Sharing
We share information only: with the people you communicate with (for example your profile name and photo, according to your settings); with service providers that help us operate the Services, such as SMS delivery providers (your phone number and verification code) and Google Firebase Cloud Messaging (push tokens and content-free notifications), under appropriate confidentiality obligations; when required by law or to protect the rights, safety and security of our users or others; and in connection with a merger or acquisition, subject to this Policy.
6. Data retention and deletion
You can delete your account at any time from Settings. Deleting your account removes your profile, group memberships, status updates, uploaded media, sessions and undelivered messages from our servers. Messages already delivered to other people remain on their devices. Some records may be kept for a limited time where required by law or to prevent abuse.
7. Security
In addition to end-to-end encryption, we use encrypted connections (TLS), hashed verification codes and PINs, and access controls to protect information on our servers. No system is perfectly secure, so please keep your device and app up to date and enable two-step verification.
8. Children
The Services are not intended for children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country). We do not knowingly collect information from children under that age.
9. International transfers
Our servers may be located in a country other than yours. By using the Services you understand that your information may be transferred to and processed in such countries, with safeguards consistent with this Policy.
10. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export or delete your personal information, and to object to or restrict certain processing. You can exercise most of these rights directly in the app, or by contacting us.
11. Changes
We may update this Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes in the app or on this page.
